Big weekend and catch up

So after my last post, I saw my doctor and he said everything is great and moved me to stage 3 part 1 of the diet (smooth foods) and then starting today I am on part 2 (soft foods).  He also released me to do whatever physical exercise I feel I can do. Yay! I get to go for a bike ride! My goal is to go out today for about 30 minutes to an hour. I'm signed up for the Jan 4 initial ride of the South Bay Blaze, my training group for ALC (Aids LifeCycle). It's only a 20 mile ride, but I want to get in a couple short rides before. I'm nervous about food, but I'm going to do a test run of food and getting on my bike right away tomorrow morning. We'll see how it goes.

So after I left the doctor, I was feeling great! I got home and started working. I made a protein shake in the afternoon to get some more protein in and I think it tasted so good compared to what I have been drinking, I drank it too fast or it was my first experience of dumping. I was so uncomfortable and felt like it was in my throat and then I got nauseous. I HATE vomiting, so I went and laid down for about an hour and when I woke up, I felt a little better. The only thing in that shake that would have made me dump was a tablespoon of all natural, no sugar added peanut butter. I'm really hoping that's not it, but the next time I try that shake I'll be drinking it at home, just in case.

Over the past few days I've had issues with Scrambled eggs feeling like they got stuck and last night I had 2 oz. of turkey lunch meat for the first time and was fine until an hour later and then OMG did my gut hurt. I was absolutely miserable for about an hour, then I went to sleep.

On my continual quest to find food that works for me, this morning I've made a really great protein drink this morning. It's a modification of one I found on line, but this is what I used.

  • Unjury Strawberry Sorbet
  • a cup of frozen berries (raspberries, blackberries, blueberries)
  • 1 cup of diet cranberry raspberry juice
  • 1 cup of water
Simple but really good!

One thing I haven't done yet is post some before pictures.. Well here they are.

Yuck.. The top photo is the night before surgery. I have others from that night in shorts and a tank top, but I don't think I want to put those out on the internet.

More about me and how I got this way later..

Post op doctor visit

Today I see Dr. Legha. I'm surprised I don't have more questions. Right now I only have these:

1. Pain in my lady side under my ribs mostly at night.
2. Should I be feeling full?
3. When can I lift heavier weights?
4. Am I clear to ride the 20 mile ride on Saturday?

I think I have more questions for the nutritionist.

Things have been great except that I had a couple bad days of experimenting with my food. Protein sure can taste horrible and brand name soups are far better than store brand. I'm going shopping tonight for more food. I'm hoping the doc lets me move to puréed food today.

I want to get on my bike today too, but not sure it will happen between needing food and work and errands tonight. I may have to settle for a walk with Baileigh.

Day 10 post op

One thing that is clear to me today is that my emotions are getting to me, not about food, just in general. I don't seem to have patience for the kids anymore. My house is too crowded. I can't handle the noise and the chaos.

Everything else is good. I'm still on the full liquid stage and everything is good. I'm just getting tired of the same protein drinks.

More later..
